California Agencies become Compliant with Equidox

Sacramento California outside the capital building

With the July 1, 2019 deadline for CA 434 fast approaching, California agencies are turning to Equidox to make them compliant.  Equidox PDF remediation software, along with accessibility training and consulting, is helping them to hit the deadline successfully and reach everyone with their compliant web content.

CA AB 434 – CA State Web Accessibility Law

California AB 434, the California state web accessibility law, requires all California agencies and entities to post a signed certification from their Director and Chief Information Officer that their website is in compliance with CA Sections 7405 and 11135, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, or a subsequent version, published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (WC3) at a minimum Level AA success criteria. This means California state agencies now have two months to certify their websites to be WCAG 2.0 compliant.

Equidox is the Agencies’ Choice

A number of California agencies have chosen Equidox software to remediate their PDF website documents for screen reader accessibility because of its ease, speed, and efficiency. Equidox is working with California Community College Office of the Chancellor, California Department of Managed Healthcare Services, California Department of Education, California Department of Healthcare, California Department of Community Services, California State Hospitals, and the California Dept of Tax and Fees Administration. PDF documents appear on agency websites in many forms including brochures, FAQ’s, policy manuals, minutes, press releases, and instructional materials. All web content is required to be WCAG 2.0 accessible, and this includes PDFs.

Equidox is Faster and Easier

The vast number of PDF documents contained on agency websites can be converted by agency staff into accessible PDF or HTML formats using Equidox software. Training is fast and easy, and agencies are remediating documents in record time. The time savings alone more than justifies the use of Equidox.

One state health agency official shared, “My management team mandated that all four hundred employees be trained and certified using Adobe Acrobat. After one training session, management decided that it was entirely too complex.  That is what led us to Equidox. The difference between the two is night and day. Wow, what a user-friendly application!”

A new user and former National Federation of the Blind employee said, “I have done document remediation in the past using Adobe.  It’s tedious, time-consuming and painstaking. It can take hours to remediate a single document, even one that appears to be quite simple. After an hour of training with Equidox, I was remediating PDFs in seconds per page, even complex documents containing lists, tables, and creative formatting. This is a powerful tool that saves both time and money.”

Stay Compliant

Once your website is made compliant, Equidox can help maintain accessibility certification by developing the required standard form to evaluate your website’s continued compliance and set up a schedule of testing to maintain it in the future.  It’s important to ensure new content meets accessibility guidelines as well as current content. Equidox also offers professional auditing and testing of your website, with detailed reporting including recommendations for fixing accessibility issues, and available training for your staff on creating accessible web content so your ongoing content remains compliant with WCAG 2.0 and any subsequent versions of these guidelines.  Any new PDF documentation can be made accessible using Equidox PDF remediation software by trained agency staff.

There’s Still Time!

It’s not too late to get Equidox on board with your agency.  We can train your staff in a few days to get started remediating your documents.  Equidox also offers professional remediation services so if you don’t have the manpower to get the job done, we can pitch in and remediate for you. Don’t let the deadline catch you unprepared.
