New Brunswick Digital Accessibility Laws

New Brunswick passed an accessibility legislation in June 2024. The Accessibility Act targets achieving greater accessibility by 2040.

Accessibility barriers will be identified, removed and prevented through the implementation of the legislation which includes enacting standards in the following areas:

Government service delivery
Transportation
Education
Employment
The built environment
Housing
Information and communication
Sport and recreation
In September 2024, ten individuals were appointed to the province’s Accessibility Advisory Board. The act requires the majority of board members be people with disabilities, people who work on behalf of those with disabilities, or members of organizations that work on behalf of people with disabilities. The board will make recommendations about accessibility standard regulations.
