Equidox™ is an automated solution that simplifies the process of discovering, converting, and publishing PDF documents to WCAG 2.0 compliant HTML. Manual PDF to HTML conversion requires a significant amount of time and extensive HTML knowledge. Not only is manual HTML conversion less efficient, but it can also introduce errors.
Equidox™ automates the conversion process, and saves organizations time and money.
Equidox™ is integrated with the GSA to crawl your sites and create the inventory of legacy documents to be converted. The GSA can also continuously crawl your sites for new content requiring conversion. Within Equidox™ you can leverage the GSA's search capabilities to find and import documents or even import from external sources. Equidox™ makes it easy to find and manage documents that need to be converted.
Equidox™ is integrated with the Google Search Appliance to help discover existing PDF documents. These documents are found in content sources such as public sites, internal intranet sites, file systems and content management systems including Sharepoint, Livelink, and Lotus Notes. The GSA crawls these content sources and builds a collection of PDF documents requiring conversion.
Equidox™ pulls from the collection of PDF documents maintained by the GSA and integrates with the GSA's search capabilities. For example, by leveraging the GSA's Dynamic Navigation capabilities you can conveniently search for documents from within Equidox™ then refine your results based on key attributes such as author, date or document type. To begin converting a document to WCAG 2.0 compliant HTML, simply select and click Import.
While the GSA is effective for discovering legacy content, you also need a tool that integrates with your current content creation and publishing process. Equidox™ integrates with Google Drive, Dropbox and local file systems allowing you to import and convert PDFs as they are created. This means you can focus on content creation and production accessible PDFs rather than re-engineering your process.
Equidox™ automates the conversion process with automated detection of text, images, URLs, and generation of HTML tables. The user is able to make manual adjustments of tables, add image descriptions, enhance document meta-data and preview the converted document.
Equidox™ automatically detects reading zones, images and URLS. The zones are detected and ordered in the correct reading sequence taking into account the placement of Headings, Columns, Paragraphs, Lists, Images and URLs. Adjustable Auto-detection allows you to optimize the detection of reading zones and eliminate much of the manual effort associated with converting content to well structured HTML. You can preview the resulting HTML directly with no additional conversion steps. Better auto-detection means better quality conversion.
Equidox™ automatically generates HTML tables, simplifying and streamlining the document conversion process. You simply select the table content auto-detected by Equidox™, (table headings, column and row headings, and cell content) group the content into a table, and generate the table. You can then preview the resulting HTML table and make necessary adjustments in the table editor. Automated table generation significantly reducing conversion effort and the potential for error.
When documents are initially imported into Equidox™, they are scanned for meta-data (Dublin Core and Adobe XMP meta-data elements are supported). This ensures that any meta-data present in the PDF is automatically extracted and created in the converted HTML document. You also have the ability to modify existing meta-data or add new by selecting meta-data tags from a preset and modifiable picklist.
When the user is satisfied with the HTML document, the document is then available to be reassigned for review and approval. Once approved, it can then be saved to a local or shared file system, exported to FTP server or to external Content Management Systems.
When a document is imported into Equidox™, its status is set to ‘New’. Once someone begins working on a document, its status is set to ‘In Progress’. When the document is approved and published, the status is set to ‘Published’. Equidox™ also allows you to reassign a document to another user so a second pair of eyes review the document before it is published (recommended as a best practice).
Document preview of a document allows you to review the content, format and flow of the resulting HTML. A document can be reviewed as a whole (best for shorter documents), or can be reviewed page by page through a table of contents (best for longer documents).
The end result is a WCAG2.0 Compliant HTML document generated without direct manipulation of HTML. The finalized and approved document is then available to be exported and saved to Google Drive, Dropbox, local or shared file system, exported to an FTP server or external Content Management Systems.
