Once you have identified that your website is inaccessible and needs remediation, it’s often a difficult and time-consuming process to determine exactly what content there is and what needs remediation. Commonly, cataloging is a manual process which can take weeks or months, and still runs the risk of human error, giving you a less accurate idea of how much work needs to be done and what the cost may be. Equidox has developed an automated service that can complete this process with accuracy in just a matter of hours or days.
Collect your Data
EquiScan is a service developed by Equidox to collect data from your website(s) which allows us to give an accurate quote for services, assist in determining where your accessibility challenges are, and streamline the process of remediating documents on your website.
EquiScan scans your website and finds all the URLs, links, images and PDF documents that are part of your website. Depending on the size of the website, the Inspector will take a few hours to a day or two to complete this scan, as opposed to months of manually cataloging your website to prepare for an audit or document remediation project.t
Detailed PDF Information
PDFs located on your website will then be audited to determine the number of documents and how many pages each has, the number of images and whether they have alt text, and whether the documents contain form elements or untagged items. It can even estimate the amount of material that would need OCR in order to be tagged properly.
All the PDF URLs captured by the Inspector can be bulk imported into Equidox software for remediation. In time, more automated tools will be added to the EquiScan service to continue to streamline and simplify the process of making your website and document accessible.
Automated Processing = Greater Accuracy
With EquiScan, the arduous process of manually reviewing the entire contents of your website and hoping nothing is missed in order to prepare for web accessibility testing, reporting, and remediation is reduced to a day or two of automated processing, providing greater accuracy for estimating costs and scope of work.
Further development is planned for this service. The goal is to provide detailed information about the accessibility of content contained on your website to help make quotes for testing and remediation and prioritization of accessibility issues more detailed.
